Summary of the results of the PLGrid Plus project in a book published by Springer

The book titled: "eScience on Distributed Computing Infrastructure", has been published by Springer In September 2014. It is a summary of the work carried out within the framework of the PLGrid Plus project. The aim of the project was to prepare domain-specific environments and computing services tailored to the needs of different groups of scientists. These domain-specific solutions have been prepared for several groups of users representing 13 selected fields of science. The book describes the experience gained by the project partners and the results of scientific work carried out during this project.

The book contains 36 chapters and is divided into three parts: the first one (chapters 1 to 8) provides a general overview of the work carried out in the project and a description of the current state of the PL-Grid Infrastructure, including new solutions in the field of security and middleware. The second part (chapters 9 to 13) presents new environments and IT services that can be used by all of the previously mentioned groups of scientists. The third part (chapters 14 to 36) describes how specific environments, tools and services, prepared within the PLGrid Plus project, are used in advanced computations and computer simulations performed by different groups of researchers. These chapters present computational models, new algorithms and methods of their implementation using available tools and services. The book also includes a subject index (252 items) and a glossary of terms (91 items).

This publication is a result of many months of systematic, intensive work and joint effort of 147 authors, 76 reviewers and editorial team in the ACC Cyfronet AGH. Editors aimed at preparation of the title, which would be an important source of information for researchers, developers and system administrators, who are using grid and cloud environments in their research. The purpose of this publication is also promotion of cooperation and exchange of ideas in the process of building a common European platform for eScience. We hope that this book will meet these goals.

The book is available for online sale.
