About the Project
Project title: New generation domain-specific services in the PL-Grid Infrastructure for Polish Science
Acronym: PLGrid NG
Duration: 01.01.2014 – 31.12.2015
Contract number: POIG.02.03.00-12-138/13
Total budget: 14 889 773,23 PLN
EC contribution: 12 651 715,38 PLN
Beneficiary: Academic Computer Centre Cyfronet AGH.
Project objectives
- Preparation of dedicated environments and computing services – creation of the so-called domain grids in the PLGrid NG project is an extension of the idea initiated by the PLGrid Plus project, i.e., building domain-specific services and tools based on the existing PL-Grid Infrastructure, with support of the researchers representing the selected fields of science. The new services are a significant enhancement of the PL-Grid Infrastructure offer.
- Development and maintenance of the IT infrastructure – in line with the best IT service management (ITSM) practices, such as ITIL or ISO 20000. For this purpose, it is necessary to: ensure the safety of the infrastructure when deploying new services, support the production deployments and to adapt the next generation services’ software for the PL-Grid Infrastructure. The other activities include operational improvements as well as training and advisory assistance for the users of new services.
Project Partners
The Project is managed by the PL-Grid Consortium, created in January 2007, which consists of the following institutions:
- ACC CYFRONET AGH – Academic Computer Centre Cyfronet AGH, Krakow (coordinator)
- ICM UW – Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling, Warsaw University, Warsaw
- PSNC – Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center, Poznan
- TASK – Academic Computer Centre, Gdansk
- WCNS – Wroclaw Centre for Networking and Supercomputing, Wroclaw.
The users of PLGrid NG computing services – scientists representing several scientific fields are also involved in the Project.
